This Dian Xiao Er outlet is located on the 2nd Floor of Marina Square Shopping Mall.  It is near to other well known restaurants such as Han's, Sakae Sushi and Pu Tien which form a cluster of eateries not far from John Little.  The location is very good, it is just around the corner from the main human traffic flow from Millenia Walk, GV Cinema & John Little.  Thus, it can tap into this human traffic and yet maintain a cosy environment where one can enjoy the food.

The name of this restaurant - 'Dian Xiao Er' is actually how Chinese address the waiter back in ancient China. All Dian Xiao Er outlets are decorated to look like ancient China 'Ke Zhang' (motel or eating place) where the xiao er (waiter) works.  The waiter/waitress are dressed like the xiao er that we know from those period movies as well.  It really feels like you are eating at a Ke Zhang minus the kung fu fighting swordman.  However, the square table may not be ideal for large group of people and square wooden seat may be uncomfortable for some as well.

Dian Xiao Er is popular with middle income family and especially so for senior.  Dian Xiao Er serves authentic Chinese Cuisine and their signature dish is the Herbal Roast Duck.  For those that don't like herbal stuffs, don't need to worry as Dian Xiao Er dishes are nothing like what we come to associate with herbal dishes.  There is a hint of herbal fragrant without the bitter & strong herbal smell.  Besides the signature roast duck dishes, other dishes that you should try are Mongolian Spare Ribs, Dong Po Pork, Fish Maw with Seafood & Roast Lamb on Grassland.

Dian Xiao Er service is good, xiao ers are friendly and knowledgable.  They can be count upon to explain the menu items and provide recommendations if needed.  Price is reasonable and affordable as its target segment is the middle income family.  To save more, look out for Yuan Bao Promotion (early bird - first 10 tables get 10% discount) and UOB Credit Card Promotion (spend $80 get $10 voucher, spend $50 get $5 voucher).

The theme is very good, food is authentic & nice and price reasonable.  This is definitely a good choice for mother day and father day.
